Sikh Organisations Meet in Manchester to Discuss Kirpan Safeguarding Following Henry Novak Incident

On Saturday, 27 June 2026, representatives from Gurdwaras and Sikh organisations from across the United Kingdom gathered at Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Gurdwara, Monton Street, Manchester, to discuss the recent Henry Novak incident and matters relating to the safeguarding of Sikhs who wear the Kirpan, one of the five articles of faith in Sikhism.

The meeting was jointly chaired by Gyani Amrik Singh, Chairman of GBSC UK, and Balvinder Singh Raud, Mukh Sevadar of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Gurdwara, Monton Street, Manchester.

Leaders from Gurdwaras and Sikh organisations unite in Manchester to address issues affecting the Sikh community.

The gathering brought together speakers and representatives from Gurdwaras and Sikh organisations across the UK. Discussions focused on the concerns arising from the recent incident, the importance of protecting the rights of practising Sikhs, and promoting greater awareness and understanding of the religious significance of the Kirpan.

The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of Sikh organisations to work together in engaging with the relevant authorities, supporting the Sikh community, and ensuring that the religious freedoms and safety of those who wear the Kirpan are respected and safeguarded.
