Vaisakhi

Happy-Visakhi from GBSCUK

Baisakhi, also known as Vaisakhi, is a festival celebrated in India, particularly in the northern state of Punjab. It falls on the 13th or 14th of April each year and marks the beginning of the Sikh New Year.

The festival has both religious and cultural significance. It is celebrated by Sikhs to commemorate the formation of the Khalsa Panth, a spiritual community of Sikhs, by Guru Gobind Singh in 1699. Baisakhi is also a harvest festival and is celebrated as such by farmers in Punjab.

On this day, people wake up early, take a bath, and visit gurdwaras (Sikh temples) to offer prayers and seek blessings. They also participate in processions known as Nagar Kirtans, which are taken out in the streets with people singing devotional songs and hymns. Bhangra, a traditional Punjabi dance, is also performed during the festivities.

Baisakhi is a time for joyous celebration and is marked by feasting, exchanging greetings, and offering sweets to friends and family.

Let’s celebrate the harvest festival of Baisakhi by spreading joy and happiness.

Wishing you and your loved ones a very Happy Baisakhi!
