met with Shri Deepak Choudhary, Community Relations Officer at the High Commission of India, London.

On 17th January 2025Mr. Jasbir Singh Bhakar, Mukh Sevadaar of the Gurdwara Bhat Sikh Council UK (GBSCUK), met with Shri Deepak Choudhary, Community Relations Officer at the High Commission of India, London.

The purpose of the meeting was to introduce GBSCUK and highlight the historical significance of the Bhat Sikh community in the UK. The Bhat Sikhs hold the unique distinction of being the first Indian diaspora to arrive in the UK. During the discussion, Mr. Bhakar shared insights into the community’s contributions to India’s independence movement while residing in the UK, as well as their efforts to support early migrants from the Indian subcontinent.

Shri Deepak Choudhary was highly receptive and expressed a keen interest in strengthening collaboration to celebrate the community’s rich heritage and address any challenges faced by Non-Resident Indians (NRIs). Both parties agreed to work together to raise awareness and foster mutual support for the betterment of the community.

This meeting marks a significant step in strengthening ties and ensuring the legacy of the Bhat Sikh community continues to be recognised and celebrated.
